After an Expression of Interest process, the FIA had accepted Michael Andretti’s proposition to introduce his team to Formula One.
However, the incumbent teams objected to Andretti’s entry, fearing a decrease in the prize money for existing teams.
Formula One’s commercial rights holder rejected Andretti’s bid to enter the sport in 2025 or 2026, but they are open to reconsidering in 2028 if General Motors also becomes an engine manufacturer.
Despite Andretti’s success in other motorsports, Formula One believes that the sport would add value to the Andretti brand rather than the other way around.
Andretti and Cadillac have responded to this decision, stating that they strongly disagree with Formula One Management’s claims and will continue to work on their joint venture in order to create a competitive car and power unit.
